Thank you for teaching me to volunteer and offer to help in my single days. I recall you mentioned this in TFS and it led me to be of great assistance to a family here. TA, Canada
Hey Family,
Welcome here and to another sweet blog post. I pray you are having a life that is just so full of JOY as you work with God in accomplishing His purposes for your life.
That is my reality and yours in Jesus name, AMEN!
Recently, I had a meeting with one of my sweet mentees. She is in her late 20’s and single, and naturally, the conversation veered toward singleness and how she is handling it.
We had a really good conversation, especially feeding off a session Lady Bodam Taiwo had had with the singles in The WILD, a praying group of women that I lead.
I like for people to share feedback of their conversations with me, and she knows so she did, and what stood out for me the most was what she said about volunteering your time to helping especially families with kids.
If you are not careful in the waiting season, you can just get so stinkin’ pee-occupied with your self that you miss the JOY, WONDERS and unique FREEDOM that comes with this season, and you waste the season.
I want you to be free from the concerns of this life. An unmarried man can spend his time doing the Lord’s work and thinking how to please him. But a married man has to think about his earthly responsibilities and how to please his wife. His interests are divided. In the same way, a woman who is no longer married or has never been married can be devoted to the Lord and holy in body and in spirit. But a married woman has to think about her earthly responsibilities and how to please her husband.
1 Corinthians 7:32-34 NLT
While talking singles and relationships is no strength of mine (grateful for my Pastors K and M whose teachings I leaned into as a Single and now still do as a Married woman), whenever I get the opportunity to speak to a single mentee, I tell her to serve… I don’t care how busy you are, or how introverted you are, find a family or 10 and serve there
And of course, serve in church
Compulsory!!!
YOU HAVE TIME!!!
That is what that scripture I quoted above is about.
We please the Lord and do His work by serving others, both in His house and outside His house.
Gosh, as a married woman, and God’s Domestic Queen, especially in this season where I intentionally don’t have domestic help, I KNOW just how much of a Blessing some of my single mentees have been to me.
Times when I need someone to stay with the kids while I go somewhere,
Help with work at home,
Etx
Not to talk of even as a Leader in the WILD for example, and how those who are single and serving bring such a unique contribution since they don’t have the issues of husband and kids YET.
And this was ME 100% as a Single
Ruth and I serving in Triumphant Assembly Ibadan vs 10 years later as wives and moms hehe
I served SO HARD in church that I had a classmate who said I would be the ‘Inheritor of the church’ because no doubt as I graduated, they would have to give me the church to leave Ibadan with.
Also as a single worker in David’s Christian Centre, I served my face off. Even when I went to Abuja as a married woman, before I had my first son, I was sort of living single since hubby wasn’t with me so I served like I owned the church.
And I was literally the house girl to my big sister at the time. She used to have so much maid issues and I was the trustworthy standby. My admission was delayed for 2 years because in that time, I was thrown into helping her at home. My siblings used to call me ‘omo odo’ aka house girl and it was OK!!!
I literally took care of them all, even through Uni as much as I could.
I am NOT SURE why singles have time to even be complaining ooo. Please throw ‘that time into SERVICE.
Serve in church
Find a family with young kids and be a blessing REGULARLY (not one-offs that cost you NOTHING)
While of course building up your spiritual life and other areas of your life too (which this post is not about)
And while we are here, STOP HAVING SEX as a single outside marriage. Respect yourself and the name you bear, Christ follower!!! For want of a better word, you are just uselessing your life.
Yes, I said it!!!
Let’s be wise Christians! Amen.
Cheers to a holy, sanctified and serving single life!!!
You don’t have time for otherwise
